1. Choose a Platform: Select an online darts platform where you can play against opponents from around the world. Popular platforms include:
2. Set Up an Account and Hardware: Register an account on your chosen platform. This typically involves providing an email address, creating a username, and setting a password.
In your darts room, ensure the board is at the correct height and you are standing from the correct distance from the board. More information can be found here.
Regarding a set-up, you can use most of the applications listed above with a mobile phone. I prefer to use a webcam and laptop, with a tripod. Tripod's can also come with a mobile phone adapter so your phone stays in place. You may also find a tripod is more secure and easier to use. You can buy them from Amazon from £22 and it's a worthwhile investment. I also have a video where I explain my full set up for streaming, which is relevant for setting up to play online darts.
3. Familiarize Yourself with the Interface: Take some time to explore the platform's interface. Understand how to navigate menus, join games, and communicate with other players.
4. Practice: Before jumping into competitive matches, spend some time practicing. Many online darts platforms offer practice modes where you can hone your skills against computer-controlled opponents or in solo training modes.
5. Join or Create a Game: Once you feel confident, join an online game or create your own. You can usually filter games by skill level, game type, or other preferences.
6. Understand the Rules: Make sure you understand the rules of the game you're playing. The most common game variations are:
501: Players start with a score of 501 and must work their way down to zero by subtracting their score with each throw.
301: Similar to 501, but with a starting score of 301.
Cricket: Players take turns to "close out" numbers on the dartboard by hitting them three times. The player who closes out all numbers first and has the highest score wins.
Around the Clock: Players take turns to hit each number on the dartboard in numerical order.
7. Set Up Your Dartboard: Ensure your dartboard is properly set up and calibrated according to the platform's guidelines. This may involve measuring the distance from the throwing line to the board and ensuring the board is mounted securely.
8. Play the Game: Once the game starts, take turns throwing darts at the board. Aim for the highest-scoring areas to maximize your points.
9. Follow Etiquette: Maintain good sportsmanship and follow proper etiquette while playing online darts. Avoid distractions, don't delay the game unnecessarily, and be respectful to your opponents.
10. Analyze Your Performance: After each game, take some time to analyze your performance. Identify areas where you can improve and work on refining your skills.
11. Participate in Tournaments and Leagues: Many online darts platforms host tournaments and leagues where you can compete against other players for prizes or simply for fun. Consider joining these events to test your skills against a wider range of opponents.
12. Have Fun: Remember that the ultimate goal of playing online darts is to have fun and enjoy the game. Whether you win or lose, focus on improving your skills and relishing the experience of playing against fellow darts enthusiasts from around the world.
By following these steps, you can enjoy playing darts online and improve your skills over time.
